Pill is a village in North Somerset, set on the southern bank of the River Avon, just outside Bristol. Its unusual name comes from the Welsh word for harbour and it was historically the dwelling place for pilots who guided boats up the river towards Bristol. It was also famous for having 21 pubs, although that number is now much lower! Nowadays it’s a convenient commuter village for those who work in Bristol but want to live outside the city.
Housing in Pill mostly consists of traditional semi-detached homes along with some charming cottages and larger, detached homes full of character. It has a primary school, a few shops and several restaurants, giving residents what they need for day-to-day living while having the attractions of Bristol within easy reach and prides itself on a strong sense of community.
As well as the River Avon, there are a number of green spaces in and around the village, and a large allotment site which is well used. There’s a popular cycle path along the river which can take you to Bristol and Bath.
